Adidas will be replacing Reebok as the NHL’s sweater provider starting next season and we could be seeing a few changes to sweaters across the league.

One change that is coming for sure is that there will be no alternate third sweaters during the 2017-18 season.  All 31 teams will just have a standard home and away sweater for the entire season.

Michael Russo was the first to report this story for the Star Tribune on Monday morning.  Russo says that Adidas is only going with two sweaters per team “in order to make the initial implementation of the new sweaters easier.”

This will force teams who have multiple sweaters, like the Minnesota Wild, to have to choose a primary color for next season.  There has been no word on whether or not alternate sweaters will return for the 2018-19 season, but you would have to imagine that they will.  The NHL would be silly to not want extra revenue from selling a 31 “new” sweaters.

What do you think of this decision?
