The Chicago White Sox are no strangers to hockey themed nights at the ball park. They have hosted numerous Blackhawks nights over the year and they recently had retired defenseman Brian Campbell on hand to throw out the first pitch prior to taking on their cross-town rival Cubs.
The White Sox honored Chicago’s latest hockey champions to Guaranteed Rate Field prior to their game against the Houston Astros last Wednesday night. The Chicago Steel, who won the USHL’s Clark Cup last spring, were introduced on the field and captain Marc Johnstone took to the mound for the ceremonial first pitch.
Instead of throwing a fastball from the pitching rubber, Johnstone grabbed his trusty hockey stick and flicked a nasty wrist shot for a strike.
The Steel’s championship touch rubbed off on the White Sox as they went on to beat the American League’s top team 7-1!
