It's been a rough year for goaltender Antti Niemi.

After a couple of struggling years in Dallas playing for the Stars, his contract was bought out and Niemi found himself without a job and not exactly the numbers to have his phone ringing off the hook during the summer.

However, just a couple of days after being bought out, Niemi signed a $700k contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins to backup Matt Murray for one year.

But a disastrous start to his time with the Penguins, the Pens felt they had no other option but to put him on waivers. Many believed it probably meant the end of the road for Niemi in the NHL.

Out of left field, the Florida Panthers actually claimed Niemi on waivers with Roberto Luongo dealing with some injury issues, the 34 year old found himself with yet another chance.

After putting up a 7.50 goals against average with the Penguins, Niemi wasn't able to improve during his time with the Panthers. After two games, Niemi had a 5.08 goals against average and the Panthers have decided to waive the goalie.

With Niemi being waived for the second time this season it's hard to imagine another team claiming him. Even with their goalie injury problems, it would be surprising for Vegas to roll the dice on him.

Do you think this is the end of the road for the goalie?
