Veteran forward Chris Kelly took part in training camp with the Edmonton Oilers, but was unable to secure a roster spot last September. The 37-year-old has been skating in Ottawa over the past few weeks and his career is not quite over.
The Senators AHL affiliate, the Belleville Senators, announced on Friday that they have signed the Toronto native to a professional tryout contract. Kelly is hoping to play well enough to not only earn an AHL contract, but eventually work his way back to the NHL.
Kelly is a veteran of 833 games, including all 82 games for the Senators last season. He played in two Stanley Cup Finals with the Boston Bruins in 2011 and 2013. He had his best professional season with the Bruins in 2011-12 when he scored 20 goals and 39 points.
Do you think Chris Kelly will make his way back to the NHL?
