The Washington Capitals fired their head coach as soon as they left the playoff bubble and they've found their new leader.

After multiple interviews with some of the biggest names on the coaching free agent market, they've gone with one of a few coaches fired this season.

Gerard Gallant, Mike Babcock and Peter Laviolette were all in the mix interviewed a handful of times each.

When all was said and done, the team has decided to go with Laviolette.

Laviolette was fired by the Nashville Predators in January as the team tried to shake things up.

He's also coached the Carolina Hurricanes, New York Islanders and Philadelphia Flyers, and won the Stanley Cup with the Hurricanes in 2006.

The 55 year old has a career coaching record of 637-425-123-25 in the NHL.
