The Tampa Bay Lightning made a huge announcement early on Tuesday morning.
The Lightning have signed forward Nikita Kucherov to an eight year contract extension worth an average of $9.5million.
"I'm truly grateful to sign this contract extension to keep me in Tampa for the next eight seasons today," Kucherov said. "I'd like to thank the Lightning organization and all of the fans for the support since making the Bay Area my home."
With the huge announcement coming on Tuesday, it'll be interesting to see how the Lightning can maneuver to keep themselves in the Erik Karlsson sweepstakes.
The 25 year old has 147 goals in 365 NHL games so far in his career including 39 goals in 80 games last year.
