The Philadelphia Flyers and general manager Chuck Fletcher made some noise and headlines on Tuesday with a surprising roster move.
Fletcher placed defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere on waivers.
Gostisbehere has been mentioned in trade rumors for what feels like two years now and it finally cumulated with him being placed on waivers.
The offensive defenseman has been struggling under head coach Alain Vigneault and has even been a healthy scratch at times.
The 27 year old has just 11 points in 25 games this year for the Flyers and carries a $4.5million cap hit signed through the 2022-23 season.
Reports came out after he was placed on waivers that the move was made to clear up cap space for an upcoming trade which could involve acquiring a goalie.
On Wednesday Gostisbehere found out that he no team was interested and he'll likely head to the taxi squad.
