The Montreal Canadiens came back from a week off last night and dominated the Edmonton Oilers with a 4-0 win.
The win keeps the Canadiens right in the mix for a playoff spot with a 4 point lead on the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks while sitting 6 points behind the third place Oilers and pretty much five games in hand on everybody.
Unfortunately the Canadiens domination wasn't the main focus of conversation on Wednesday and was rather a dirty play by a superstar.
Connor McDavid gave Jesperi Kotkaniemi a pretty high and dirty elbow last night and many have called for McDavid's suspension.
Because of McDavid's superstar status it's unlikely anything happens to McDavid.
However the NHL reviewed the play on Wednesday and has given McDavid a $5k fine.
"Edmonton’s Connor McDavid has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for Elbowing Montreal’s Jesperi Kotkaniemi."
Canadiens head coach Dominique Ducharme commented on the play.
"I thought they [referees] made the right call"
McDavid was given a two minute roughing penalty on the play.
