Absolutely surprising trade on Wednesday afternoon.
NHL insider Elliotte Friedman reports that the Minnesota Wild and Buffalo Sabres have hooked up a trade that will swap veteran forwards.
The trade is one for one.
Eric Staal will head to the Sabres while Marcus Johansson will head to the Wild.
Wild general manager Bill Guerin is cleaning house and is expected to make some big trades in the coming weeks and this looks like the first one.
Staal scored 42 goals two seasons ago for the Wild and had 19 goals in 66 games this year before the season was paused.
It is a straight-up trade: Johansson for Staal.
