What was once a time honoured tradition has slowly started to disappear.

It's been a tradition for years for championship sports teams to visit the White House and the president after claiming their respective trophies, however not so much anymore.

The NBA's Golden State Warriors and NFL's Philadelphia Eagles have both skipped their recent visits making it clear that they had no interest in meeting with controversial president Donald Trump.

While it's yet to be seen who the 2018 Stanley Cup champs will be, if it's the Washington Capitals, forward Devante Smith-Pelly won't be going.

“The things that he spews are straight-up racist and sexist. Some of the things he’s said are pretty gross … It hasn’t come up here, but I think I already have my mind made up.”

What makes this story even more complex is of course the fact that the Capitals are in Washington.

DSP did mention also that he's not getting ahead of himself and the Capitals still need to win one more game.
