Things have been going much better for the Washington Capitals of late. After the two-time defending Presidents’ Trophy winners got off to a slow start, they have won seven of their last nine games.
The Caps won their second straight game on Monday night with a 4-1 victory over the San Jose Sharks. During the final minute of the second period, Brett Connolly’s fourth goal of the season put Washington up 3-1.
In a rather crazy sequence, both Connolly and Alex Ovechkin hit the crossbar and after a review, Connolly’s shot was ruled as a good goal.
After Connolly’s shot was ruled a good goal, San Jose Sharks head coach Peter DeBoer challenged the play for being offside before the shot was taken. Following another lengthy video review, the goal on the ice was upheld and that is when we got our viral moment.
Caps center Evgeni Kuznetsov reached out to Connolly for a little love when the goal was made official, but he was left hanging so he gave himself his own fist bump.
The Capitals official Twitter account sent out a GIF of the inadvertent dis and Connolly was the first to reply!
