Over the weekend we saw things get out of hand between the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames.
What made the highlight reels was Oilers' forward Zack Kassian attacking Flames' forward Matthew Tkachuk.
What some highlight reels didn't show was Tkachuk head hunting for Kassian all game with some borderline dirty hits.
Now Kassian will have a hearing with the NHL Department of Player Safety and a couple of former NHLers aren't happy about it because they feel Kassian was just protecting himself after being a constant target all game.
"From this angle, it’s clear as day MT has ABSOLUTELY ZERO intention of making a hockey play. Again, for those of u who haven’t played at any level, other than Xbox, our new NHL states u must acknowledge there’s a puck on the ice at some point (I had no idea most nights either!)"
Even NHL legend Teemu Selanne doesn't like the fact that Kassian might be in trouble instead of Tkachuk.
"And Kassian will faceNHL hearing for protecting himself from this 2 dangerous hits...George Parros not right..."
Here's a couple of videos from the game:
Tell me Tkatchuk didn’t charge and launch prior to contact on this head shot. pic.twitter.com/BUh1zkYBwm

This was Tkachuk’s first hit on Kassian tonight, which to me, is far more egregious than anything else that followed it. pic.twitter.com/oIMAevXgpw— zach laing (@zjlaing) January 12, 2020
