With the John Tavares sweepstakes coming to an end this past weekend, all eyes are now focused on the Ottawa Senators and Erik Karlsson.
After the opening of free agency, Senators general manager Pierre Dorion spoke with the media and mentioned that he had made an offer to Karlsson but wouldn't reveal any more details.
It doesn't look like there was any interest from Karlsson at all to accept the deal as the Senators have given Karlsson permission to discuss a contract extension with other teams.
That means it's pretty much guaranteed that Karlsson will be traded before the season starts.
The teams that continue to be most attached to Karlsson are the Vegas Golden Knights and the Tampa Bay Lightning.
One problem which could come up for interesting teams is that from all accounts the Senators are asking teams to take on Bobby Ryan and his $7.25million cap hit through 2021-22.
