Washington Capitals superstar Alex Ovechkin has already decided that he won't be participating at the 2019 NHL All-Star game.
At first glance it wasn't a huge deal as Sidney Crosby has done it plenty of times for "rest" heading into the playoff push.
While Ovechkin is older and probably needs some rest after the Stanley Cup winning run last year, his absence might be deeper than that.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman mentioned recently on Hockey Night in Canada that Ovechkin could be missing the All-Star game in protest.
NHL players weren't allowed to participate in the most recent Olympics and Ovechkin was one of the most vocal about it.
Many believe that Olympic participation will be a huge point of negotiation heading into the upcoming CBA meetings, meetings that some believe could lead to another NHL lockout.
