It's going to be a very interesting offseason.
The NHL salary cap isn't expected to go up which puts a lot of teams in trouble.
At least half the league will either have trouble signing their own players or having any significant money to be active in the free agent market.
That's why we'll likely see some pretty significant trades happen during the offseason.
One team that's likely to make a move is the New York Islanders.
The team will likely have to dish out very big bucks for restricted free agent Mathew Barzal and young defenseman Ryan Pulock who has quietly emerged as one of the league's up and coming blueliners.
So who could be on their way out?
Despite having an 8 team no trade list, Rory Boylen of Sportsnet believes veteran defenseman Johnny Boychuk will be on his way out.
The 36 year old has obviously lost a step or two but with only two more years left on his contract can be a serviceable bottom four defenseman for a team in need.
He carries a $6million AAV through the 2021-22 season.
