It's been an interesting opening to training camp to say the least.
We had the Pierre-Luc Dubois drama right before camp opened and even though he wants out of Columbus, much like Jet's forward Patrik Laine, he's not going anywhere until the team gets exactly what they want in a trade.
Now there's another young star unhappy with his situation and has refused to show up to camp.
Arthur Staple of The Athletic confirms that restricted free agent forward Mathew Barzal is officially holding out during training camp.
He won't be showing up until he gets a contract and gets a contract he likes.
Islanders head coach Barry Trotz confirmed the holdout and added that the team will just have to adapt for the time being.
#Isles camp has begun with off-ice testing today and Mathew Barzal is officially a holdout. Barry Trotz confirmed Barzal is not in camp yet, though he has been on LI. "You have to make sure you're adaptable," Trotz said. "We're going to worry about who we can put on the ice."
