One of the biggest on ice topics of conversations during this past NHL season was the officiating.

We had controversy during the season and it got extremely heated during the playoffs.

NHL commissioner Gary Bettman came to the defense of his refs during the playoffs calling them not only the best refs in hockey but the best refs in any sport across the world.

Superstar Connor McDavid commented earlier this offseason about officiating and he’s done it again.

McDavid made it clear the refs need to do their job properly and by the book.

“You obviously want to call the rulebook,” he said Tuesday. “That’s what it’s there for. If you call each and every one, there’s lots of penalties. But if there’s lots of penalties, there’s lots of penalties — that’s just the way it is.

“The rulebook’s there for a reason, and you want to call it with integrity. If you let guys get away with certain things, they’re going to keep getting away with it. It’s a tough job (the referees have), and it’s something that I don’t envy.”

What do you think of McDavid’s comments?
