It seems that it was almost a done deal.

Evander Kane heading to Canada to join Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers.

The team has been looking for a power forward and it seems Kane was willing to sign a cheap one year deal.

However the NHL has put at least a temporary stop on that.

According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, Kane is currently under investigation for once again breaking COVID protocols.

“The has notified teams it is investigating process of Evander Kane crossing border from US into Canada on Dec. 29.

“Kane tested positive for COVID on Dec. 21, and flew to Vancouver on the 29th. In termination notice from SJ, it was alleged he did not have proper medical clearance. NHL is now doing full investigation.

“This will likely prevent a Kane signing in the short term, as teams await the results.”

Another insider, Dave Pagnotta, mentions that teams were aware of Kane's situation while showing interest in signing the forward.
