While most fans and NHL teams are getting ready for the 2018-19 season with excitement and Stanley Cup aspirations, things look to have gone completely sour in Montreal.
Trade rumors have been hovering over Canadiens' captain Max Pacioretty going back to last season and it seems to have reached a boiling point.
Earlier this week Pacioretty stated publicly that he hadn't received any contract extension offers and his desire was to stay in Montreal.
Reports had surfaced earlier in the summer that the Canadiens had no intentions of offering Pacioretty any type of new contract and a reported trade fell through with the Los Angeles Kings at the NHL Draft.
While Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin has constantly been painted the bad guy in Montreal, a bombshell report came out today that cited three sources that Pacioretty asked for a trade last season and it was the second time during his time in Montreal he had asked to be shipped out of town.
This prompted Pacioretty's agent, Allan Walsh, to get crazy on Twitter. Walsh is known for being very vocal publicly, and he did it once again today:
"Max Pacioretty has stated repeatedly that he loves Montreal and wants to remain in Montreal. To this date, he’s never received any offer from Montreal. You can have 3 sources or 10 sources, how many times does Max have to state that he wants to remain in Montreal long term?"
"Obvious these “sources” are coming from the club. Max will always take the high road and repeats again, he is ready to sign an extension with Montreal TODAY. It was Montreal that traded Max to LA at the draft and it was a DONE DEAL subject to Max signing an extension with LA."
Sounds like things are getting very interesting in Montreal!
