One of the biggest free agents could be staying put.
According to NHL Insider Bob McKenzie, the Buffalo Sabres are closing in on a 8 year extension with forward Jeff Skinner.
Skinner is about to get paid as McKenzie reports that Skinner will score $72million putting him in the $9million AAV club.
The 27 year old scored 40 goals last year and tied a career high 63 points on the season.
The deal will set the tone for the market including Mitch Marner who's looking for a big pay bump as a restricted free agent.
While Marner hasn't scored more than 26 goals, he's registered seasons of 61, 69 and 94 points since entering the league.
Do you think Skinner is worth $9million a season?
