The Erik Karlsson sweepstakes look like they could be coming to an end very soon.
According to multiple sources, the Ottawa Senators and Tampa Bay Lightning have been working hard in the last 24-48hrs to complete a blockbuster trade which would send Karlsson to Tampa.
TSN's Darren Dreger even points out that the New York Rangers could be involved as a third team to help the Lightning free up some cap space.
Karlsson would likely be Norris Trophy winner Victor Hedman's partner in Tampa and create arguably the best defensive pairing in the NHL.
Earlier this week Dallas had emerged as the front runner, but it's been stated they're not willing to take on Bobby Ryan and his contract.
Speculation has young defenseman Mikhail Sergachev possibly part of the deal as he's one of the only defensemen without a no trade or modified no trade clause, we can't imagine anybody with a clause would accept a trade to Ottawa at the moment.
More to come in the following hours.
Tampa Bay and Ottawa continue to work on an Erik Karlsson trade. The NYR may be involved as Lightning need cap room. Callahan back to NY?
