Monday night's game between the San Jose Sharks and Washington Capitals got ugly, and one hit saw Caps forward T.J. Oshie leave the game and wind up missing practice Tuesday and is currently labeled as "day to day".

The hit was by Sharks forward Joe Thornton, who came skating in and eventually smashed a defenseless Oshie's head up against the boards. Thornton would later get roughed up by Caps forward Tom Wilson eating a pretty strong punch that saw Thornton hit the ground.

While he might have faced some online discipline by Wilson, it looks like Thornton will avoid any discipline by the NHL Department of Player Safety.

Thornton wasn't called for a penalty on the play and the NHL decided no further discipline was required. Kevin Kurz of The Athletic confirms Thornton will not receive any supplemental discipline.

Sharks defenseman Brenden Dillon might not be so lucky as he will have a hearing Tuesday night for his slash on Caps defenseman Madison Bowey. The play happened at the end of the game with the clock winding down and Dillon was given a five minute major for his two handed slash.
