With the Stanley Cup Finals finished, it's now time for buyouts, NHL draft, free agency and all the madness that comes with it.
There's been a couple of players that have been named in buyout rumors as teams can begin buying out contracts on Friday, and we might have our first confirmed one.
According to Kevin Kurz of The Athletic, the San Jose Sharks are preparing to buyout veteran defenseman Paul Martin who has one year left on his contract.
The move would give the Sharks an extra $2.8million of cap space which they'll need after signing Evander Kane.
The Sharks have been rumored to be possible destinations for both John Tavares and Ilya Kovalchuk.
There’s a “strong possibility” the #SJSharks will buy out the final year of Paul Martin’s contract, I’m told. That would gain the Sharks approximately $2.8 million in cap space for next season. Buyout period begins shortly.
