The Minnesota Wild waisted no time when they fired GM Paul Fenton after just one season.
Owner Craig Leipold said he just didn't feel it was the right fit which as an owner is understandable, however his choice of first interviews makes you really scratch your head.
According to Michael Russo of The Athletic, the Wild have already interviewed two candidates for their vacant GM job.
The first being former Philadelphia Flyers GM Ron Hextall who was fired by Philly last season. Hextall is an interesting candidate as he did an absolute great job rebuilding the Flyers prospect pipeline, however that came at a cost as he almost ignored the needs of his NHL roster.
The second candidate is a real head scratcher.
After almost running the Edmonton Oilers to the ground the last couple of years, Peter Chiarelli was given an interview by the Wild. While Chiarelli does have a Stanley Cup ring for his work with the Boston Bruins, he created an absolute disaster in Edmonton.
"A mere two days after firing Paul Fenton after one season as the team’s GM, sources tell The Athletic that owner Craig Leipold and president Matt Majka have already interviewed two prospective candidates — former Philadelphia Flyers GM Ron Hextall and former Edmonton Oilers GM Peter Chiarelli." writes Russo.
