Trade rumors continue to swirl regarding Ottawa Senators All-Star defenseman Erik Karlsson.

Karlsson will become an unresticted free agent on July 1st of 2019, so he's likely looking to agree to an extension with whatever team he signs before the deal happens.

The two teams that remain in the mix are the Dallas Stars and Tampa Bay Lightning.

What complicates things for the Stars is that they aren't willing to take on Bobby Ryan's contract, while the Lightning don't have any cap space to play around with.

The Lightning have reportedly gotten a third team involved, the New York Rangers, and the Rangers are willing to take back Ryan Callahan to open some cap space.

However the hold up seems to be that the Rangers want some high quality prospects and picks to do both teams a favour. Now, with the Lightning signing Nikita Kucherov to a big time contract extension.

The deal has become complicated, more updates to come.
