The Los Angeles Kings took a tough loss last night to the Dallas Stars by a score of 3-2 in overtime.
However their biggest loss likely came in the lineup.
Kings defenseman Drew Doughty was the victim of a vicious knee on knee hit and left the game without returning.
Jani Hakanpaa was the one who laid down the hit and received a five minute major along with a game misconduct.
While many are calling for a suspension, Hakanpaa's head coach, Rick Bowness, defended the hit.
"He's not going out there to hurt anyone," said Bowness. "It's just one of those hockey plays. The league will deal with it the best they see fit. It's unfortunate, and we hope Drew is OK. We really do, because he's a great player, he's a great asset to our league. I hope he's OK, but it's unfortunate."
"It wasn't intentional at all, it's just Jani's a big guy, he's a physical guy and sometimes that stuff's going to happen."
Check out the play below, it wouldn't be surprising if Doughty misses an extended period of time after having to be helped off the ice.
