Things got a little crazy in Washington last night.

It all started with a weird hit by San Jose Sharks forward Joe Thornton on Washington Capitals forward TJ Oshie who had found himself on his knees in an awkward spot.

Thornton came skating in and ended up smashing Oshie's head with his butt into the boards. Oshie took quite the hit and took awhile to get up.

The Capitals forward never returned to the game and is currently listed as day to day by the Caps.

No penalty was assessed to Thornton and the 38 year old wasn't attacked by any Caps after the play.

All that changed in the third period as Caps enforcer Tom Wilson went right after Thornton, the two dropped gloves and after a couple of punches Wilson dropped Thornton with a huge punch.

People are calling for a suspension on Thornton as Oshie was defenseless on the play and Thornton didn't try to avoid the play. However Sharks head coach Peter DeBoer seemed like he thought Wilson's actions were worse.

"If someone would have grabbed Joe in the heat of the moment after the play because they thought a liberty was taken, then I've got no problem with that," DeBoer told reporters postgame, according to NBC Sports California. "To go into the dressing room, think about it, come out in the first shift, and do that premeditated crap is just garbage."

You can check out both the plays below, do you think Thornton will be suspended?
