The next big name on the move that everybody is waiting for is of course Ottawa Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson.
Original reports had the Vegas Golden Knights and Tampa Bay Lightning as the front runners to land the All-Star defenseman, however a different Western Conference team has emerged as the front runner.
According to multiple sources the Dallas Stars are currently in talks with the Senators in regards to Erik Karlsson.
It's a very interesting team, however it's totally plausible with Texas having some of the lowest taxes in North America and Karlsson discussing extensions with others teams. Another interesting factor would be Karlsson's chance to reunite with one of his favourite defensive partners in Marc Methot.
What exactly could be going the other way is anybody's guess, but the Stars do have some very interesting prospects in their system.
Dallas is most certainly in the mix on Karlsson, but I don't believe Heiskanen is someone they would part with. Could change, but right now he's not available. Vegas and at least one other team remain in talks with Ottawa. Happy 4th.

NHL source tells The Athletic he thinks Dallas has emerged as front runner for Karlsson and Bobby Ryan will not be part of the deal. No other details.— Chris Stevenson (@CJ_Stevenson) July 3, 2018
Lot of Dallas/Karlsson talk and I know I’m beating a horse here but until the final whistle blows, do not rule out Tampa Bay. They will try to make this work, to a point. And it could be a win/win.— Travis Yost (@travisyost) July 4, 2018
